HOW TO MAKE SNEAKERS@WORK DAY FUN FOR ALL? (And even more
successful!)
There are infinite numbers of ways to make
SNEAKERS@WORK DAY more fun, more memorable and even more
inclusive. Following are some of our suggestions but please feel free to
add, improvise or create your own. And please share them with us for
S@W DAY
2008.
- Create early awareness of the DAY with a lead-in activity two weeks
prior to the event. This can be a ‘Wear it (blue) for the boys’ day when
everybody wears something blue.
- Have a contest with small prizes for:
The most creative use of the sneaker laces
The best decorated sneaker, etc.
The department with the highest participation rate
- Create the mood by decorating the office(s) with blue ribbons and blue
balloons
- Many celebrities wear sneakers to their work all the time. Give the
one who comes up with the longest list of sneaker wearing celebs a gift
rental of their favorite movie.
- Alert the local media—newspaper(s), radio/TV stations—to the event and
you and your colleagues may be ‘today’s headline’.
- Gather donations--edible, drinkable (non-alcoholic) or other--from
area businesses and make grab bags for sneaker wearing participants
- Buy blue sneaker laces to outfit the entire Little League. They can
be worn at all their games
- Create a special page on your company intranet where employees can
post a name in memory of or in honor of someone they know who has had
prostate cancer
- Take a picture of everyone who has indicated that he/she will
participate in the event and tack it up around the 11X17 poster that
came with the KIT. On
SNEAKERS@WORK DAY put a big ‘THANK YOU’ banner
across it
- If possible, reserve a few parking places very near the entrance to
your workplace for
SNEAKERS@WORK DAY MVP’s. (You need to decide who they
are.)
- Gather a list of prostate cancer survivors in your community and
dedicate the day to them
Some workplace policies may require little more creativity or ingenuity
when it comes to participating in
SNEAKERS@WORK DAY. Here are some other
ways to get involved in the fight against prostate cancer:
- Sneakers are against OSHA regulations; just use the sneaker laces in
some creative ways
- Your company already participates in a breast cancer day; combine the
two causes and divide the proceeds equally
- If Friday September 19, does not work for your company; just
change the date to one that works.
